Fire

So many of you already know, but I thought I'd post a little information for the rest. Late Tuesday night, early Wednesday morning a fire broke out in my home. I smelled smoke just after 2 am and grabbed the baby and my husband and headed for the door. What I thought was a small porch fire turned out to be what the fire-fighters called "a very challenging house-fire."
The fire raged till dawn and when it was all over, the entire front bedroom uptairs was gutted. We're all okay, and remarkably, so is most of our stuff. (Except for a lot of smoke damage.) Aside from being homeless, we are very fortunate people. I have a new-found respect for the profound power of fire, and the love of my community. Here's some pictures. You can see the real damage when I get the disk from my neighbors camera.

What a difference a day makes... Believe it or not this is a ball of rainbow Naturwolle.

And this is Charlie's Crib. Our Front Porch.
The House as it looks now.

Wow - so sorry to hear about the housefire! It's nice to find your blog - I have a shop in Hood River, and I love your store! Glad to hear you have Koigu, too, as I always hunt down some Koigu when I get to PDX. Hope you all are recovering well from the crisis. - Sarah Keller

Oh Melissa! How terrifying! I'm just glad you're OK. I hope you are staying somewhere comfortable while this all gets sorted out. Any idea what started the fire? I've always had a terror of loosing everything in a house fire. I'm glad to hear that at least some of your stuff will continue on with you.

Seeing Charlie's crib is blood-chilling.
